Rejection is inevitable, but failure isn’t. I’ll show you how to reframe “no,” focus on activity, and sharpen your skills for consistent wins.

Are you struggling with prospecting calls? I know that cold calling, door knocking, and small talk at open houses aren’t what we imagined when we got into real estate. But if you’re hoping to secure more listings this spring, it’s time to confront your fear of rejection and pick up the phone. I’m sharing three ways to help you overcome your nerves, sound like a pro, and also enjoy the process.

1. Lead with value, not a pitch. People don’t want to feel like they’re being sold to, especially when they didn’t ask for it. What they do appreciate is useful information. So, instead of jumping into a sales pitch, share something simple and relevant, like a home value increase in their area. A quick heads up like, “Homes in your neighborhood are up 6% since last spring,” makes a knowledgeable resource rather than just another salesperson. It also builds trust quickly.

If you want to sharpen your prospecting skills, you can try daily roleplays and talk through the awkward calls.

2. Be yourself, not a scripted robot. Scripts can be a helpful starting point, but they shouldn’t sound like a script. Take the time to make them your own by practicing until the words flow naturally in your voice. Before you call, take a breath, relax, and smile. Real energy and authenticity go a long way. People respond to someone who sounds human, not stiff or mechanical.

3. Don’t fear rejection. Expect it. The reality is that some people will hang up, others won’t call back, and a few just won’t be interested—and that’s okay. Rejection is part of the process, and every “no” gets you one step closer to a “yes.” Since this is a numbers game, keep your focus on activity over outcomes. If you want to sharpen your skills, you can try daily role plays, talk through the awkward calls, and if you ever want to bounce ideas around, I’m here.
